Union County struck first in the bottom of the third inning, putting the first two runs of the game up on the board. Broome was able to snag one run in the top of the fourth frame, but the Yellow Jackets continued the momentum and tacked on two more runs in the same inning.
Broome’s only other run in the game came in the top of the fifth and Union County sealed the deal in the bottom of that frame bringing home its final three runs of the night.
The Yellow Jackets tallied a total of eight runs compared to Broome’s six and were flawless in their effort. The visitors had two errors.
Taking the pitching win for the home team was Dylan Rogers who worked seven complete innings and giving up just two earned runs.
Leading Union County at the plate were Darius Gilliam who was 2-for-3 with one run, two singles and two RBI. He was followed by Joe Beatty who went 1-for-2, scored two runs and had a triple and an RBI; Jarrod Cheek was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI; Keiston Stevens was 1-for-2, scored one run and had a single; Gerard Taylor was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a single; and Taylun Wallace was 1-for-4 with a single.
The Yellow Jackets — who are now 10-7 on the season — travels to Chapman tonight (Friday, April 16).
