INMAN — Payton Martin hit and pitched Union County to a 4-3 win over Chapman on Tuesday night. The freshman struck out six batters and allowed six hits to a powerful Panthers line-up. She drove in the winning run in the top of the seventh with a single after two runners reached base on fielding errors.
Dexlie Inman had an impressive night at the plate, scoring two runs on a double and a single with an RBI in the fifth inning.
With the victory, Union County Head Coach Danny Gault became one step closer to a milestone with 199 career wins. The Lady Jackets will look to bring Gault’s total to 200 on Friday when they square off with Nation Ford at 6 p.m. at the Timken Complex.

In JV Softball Action
Laina Vaughan pitched the Union County JV to a 9-0 win over Chapman. She tossed a complete seven-inning game with nine strikeouts and allowed just two hits.
Cara Phillips led at the plate with three hits for the Jackets. Kendall Henderson, Madison Phipps and Laquanda Thompson had two hits each. Vaughan, Diamond Lee, Morgan Pittman and Karlie Lane each contributed a hit.
Union County JV Head Coach Mark Moss was impressed with his team’s performance.
“This is a good Chapman team but our girls persevered and came out on top,” he said.
The Union County JV softball team will face Clinton on the road Friday at 5 p.m.
