UNION — Persons interested in running for a vacant seat on Union City Council have until Monday to file for the April 23 special election.

The District 3 council seat has been vacant since the death of councilman Keith Henderson on January 27. Henderson was serving his third term at the time of his death.

Filing for the April 23 special election to fill the District 3 seat opened February 15 and will close at noon Monday, February 25.

City of Union Municipal Clerk Gloria Rogers said that as of Friday afternoon three people — Vicki Morgan, Robin Price, and Yates Giles — had filed to run. Morgan and Price both filed to run on the first day of filing and Giles filed Friday afternoon.

Persons wanting to run for the District 3 seat must file to do so at the Municipal Clerk’s office in the City of Union Municipal Building. To run for the seat, a person must:

• Sign a statement of candidacy.

• Pay a $100 filing fee.

• Be a registered voter in District 3 at least 30 days.
