WHITMIRE — Hattie M. Dawkins Henderson, 80, 480 Duckett Avenue, died Friday, February 15, 2013, at her home.

She was born in Newberry County, daughter of the late Moses and Bessie Bates Dawkins. She retired from the public school system of Newberry County and was a member of the Seekwell Baptist Church. Also a member of Bright Star Chapter #245 Order of the Eastern Star and Woman’s Home Aide Society #74.

She is survived by her children, Notreanne Henderson, Philadelphia, PA, Mahala Henderson, Whitmire, Terry Henderson of the home, Deaconess Tracey (Alfonza) Walker, Inglewood, CA, Michael (Sandra) Henderson, Jonesboro, GA, Lee Henderson, Sheppard’s Air Force Base, TX, and Teresa Hendrson, Greenville, S.C.; adopted children, Shirley (Melvin) Kelly, Clayton, N.C., Harmon Whitener, Orangeburg, S.C.; special children Leon (Sandra) Whitener, Laval Randy Epps and Kevin (Sharetha) Whitener; siblings Louise Jeter, Carlisle, S.C., Elizabeth (Marvin) Kingcade, Philadelphia, PA, Yancy (Betty) Dawkins, Newberry, S.C., Bernice (Willie) Carwile, Greenville, S.C., and Alfred (Kathryn) Dawkins, Las Vegas, NV; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Seekwell Baptist Church located at 6166 Brazelmans Bridge Road, Whitmire, South Carolina.

Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
