UNION — Two people have filed to run in a special election for a vacant seat on Union City Council.

The District 3 seat has been vacant since the death of councilman Keith Henderson on January 27. Henderson was serving his third term at the time of his death.

A special election will be held April 23 to fill the seat and the winner will serve the remainder of Henderson’s term which will expire in 2016.

Persons wanting to run for the District 3 seat must file to do so at the Municipal Clerk’s office in the City of Union Municipal Building. To run for the seat, a person must:

• Sign a statement of candidacy.

• Pay a $100 filing fee.

• Be a registered voter in District 3 at least 30 days.

Filing for the District 3 seat will close at noon on Monday, February 25.
