UNION — The Union County Arts Council will offer a photography class “Understand Your Camera and Improve Your Photos” that will be taught by professional photographer Harold Senn. The four-week class will begin February 21 and run through March 14. All classes will meet at the UCAC gallery on Main Street in Union from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“We are happy to be able to offer this class this year,” said UCAC coordinator Jackie Senn. “Harold’s photography classes are always a popular addition to our programs that we make available to our community.”

The class will cover such topics as making your subjects stand out by controlling depth-of-field, the creative use of controlling action, using the histogram to check exposure, creative composition and much more. After each class session there will be a homework assignment that will get the student off the couch, out of the house and into the field to try out new techniques. Then, at the beginning of the next class session, the homework will be “critiqued” by the class.

“There’s always a lot of skepticism when I first tell a class that they’ll have homework,” said Harold. “But then that turns out to be one of the highlights of the class. Once the students get past the fear of having their work shown in public, they have a great time seeing how the other students interpreted the assignment. And, really, the only way to improve your photography is to get out and shoot.”

The class size will be limited to 15 students so early registration is suggested.

Call UCAC at 864-429-2817 or email ucac@bellsouth.net for information about this and other classes and programs.
