ANDERSON — John Walker Brown Sr., 86, of Anderson, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Chester, S.C., he was the son of the late Walter A. Brown Sr. and the late Nora Hall Brown. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Philippines. He retired from AnMed Health Medical Center after many years of service. He was a charter member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church where he was a former Music Director and Deacon Emeritus. John was a Mason and a member of the VFW. He was a Director of Music for a number of churches. As a resident of Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home, he started a choir where they were able to share their talents with other residents of the facility.

He is survived by his children, John W. Brown, Jr., David L. Brown, Elizabeth Ann Kellett and Sylvia Jean Tate; a brother, Walter A. Brown II; and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Bearden Brown; three brothers and four sisters.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Dickson officiating. Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Campbell Patriots Post 184.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
