The Union County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:

Nov. 28, 2012

Edward Matthew Sweezy, 31, 1223 Arthur Boulevard, Union, charged with criminal domestic violence and third-degree assault and battery.

Adam Wayne Fisher, 23, 317 Linersville Road, Buffalo, charged with third-degree assault and battery.

James Michael Turner, 49, 270 West End Manor #C1, Union, charged with trespassing.

Michael Leon Holmes Jr., 38, 215 Goings Lane, Union, charged with disregarding a stop sign and driving under suspension.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the following incidents:

On-line scam

The sheriff’s office is investigating an on-line scam a Buffalo woman said she fell victim to involving an individual contact through the Craiglist website.

The victim said she advertised as a house sitter through the website and her services were engaged by an individual who said he and his family were being relocated to the Greenville area by his employer. The woman said the individual told her his wife was pregnant and they already had two children. She said he told her she would be employed as family support for several hours a day and paid a set weekly wage for her services.

The woman said the individual told her the apartment he and his family were moving into was under renovation and that she would be contacted by the real estate broker with keys and directions when some financial transactions were completed. She said she was also told that she would need to purchase groceries and cleaning supplies for the family so that the apartment would be ready to live in when they arrived from California.

The individual then told the woman that her first payment would be in advance and that he would send her a check which would be deposited in her account from which she was to withhold her pay and the cost of the items needed to set up the apartment. The balance of the funds ($1,960) was to be sent via Money Gram to the real estate broker in Georgia to cover final repairs and maintenance to the apartment.

The victim then received a check for $2,680 from the individual and deposited it into her bank account and forwarded the directed amount to the broker in Georgia. The check, however, bounced and the victim has been billed by her bank for the bad check.

Larcenies

The sheriff’s office is investigating four larcenies.

• A deputy was dispatched Nov. 26 to 889 Hawkins Road, Union, where the victim told him that sometime between Nov. 12 and that morning, someone stole several items of jewelry from her home. The items, which had a combined value of $5,000, included two diamond necklaces, three diamond bracelets, one gold wide band wedding band with set with diamond engagement ring, a gold necklace with Eeyore and Harley Davidson charms, a diamond Marqui band, a white gold rope chain, silver pill box with etchings, watch and a sterling silver ring

• On Nov. 21, a deputy responded to a call from 1459 Berry Farm Road in Union where the victim said that he’d left his home the previous day and when he returned that morning he discovered his door was open. He said he he went in and found that his 9mm Taurus handgun, watch, and wedding band were missing.

The stolen items had a combined value of $689.

• A deputy was dispatched Nov. 24 to 414 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway in Jonesville in reference to the theft of two items sometime between Sept. 10 and Nov. 15. The victim told the deputy that sometime stole an almond cast iron bath tub and garden tiller from the back yard of her home. She said the items had a combined value of $750.

• A Carlisle man reported that a chainsaw was stolen from the back of his truck while it was parked at 3200 Janie Glymph Goree Boulevard, Carlisle. He said he stopped there around 10 a.m. Nov. 25 and then left at at 10:15 a.m. When he arrived home a short time later, he noticed the chainsaw was gone. The chainsaw, described as a 14-inch Husqvarna Model 77, is valued at $250.
