UNION — As the day of their trip to the State Championship game nears, the Union County High School Yellow Jackets will get some special messages of support Friday morning.

A pep rally for the Yellow Jackets will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at UCHS as they prepare to face the Hartsville Red Foxes on Saturday in Columbia.

The pep rally will feature a video filmed by Dr. Kristi Woodall, Union County School District superintendent, and Michelle James, Sims Middle School assistant principal. Woodall said the video, which will also include footage filmed at the district’s elementary and middle schools, is designed to allow supporters of the team to wish them the best.

“We’re visiting about fifteen locations, businesses and people who have supported our teams to be part of a video to send their good wishes at the pep rally,” Woodall said. “The elementary and middle schools are recording student messages as well.”

Those locations visited by Woodall and James included the Union County Courthouse, Union County Economic Development Board, Union Housing Authority, Wallace Thomson Hospital, and local businesses including The Union Daily Times.

Woodall said that following the pep rally the football team will be taken to Williams Brice Stadium in Columbia where they will face Hartsville. She said this is to give them a chance to familiarize themselves with the facility so they can concentrate more fully on the game when they play there on Saturday.

While they will leave after the rally to tour the stadium, Woodall said the team will be back in time for Friday’s basketball games at UCHS.

“The players will be at the basketball games on Friday,” Woodall said. “The public can come meet them at the basketball games. The boosters will also be at the games selling Union County apparel.”
