UNION — A local 10-year-old’s trip to New York over Thanksgiving is one she will never forget, especially after an encounter which left her star struck.

Union resident Julia Bailey, 10, took a trip to New York with her family over Thanksgiving break. She saw the sights of the Big Apple, watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and took in live theatre, but to her, nothing could compare to meeting a celebrity in the big city.

Julia accompanied her family and friends to the Snapple Theater for a production of “The Fantasticks,” the world’s longest running musical, starring gold and platinum-selling recording artist Aaron Carter.

Carter began his recording career at the age of 9, and has five albums and one EP in his discography. He has also won multiple awards over his 14-year career including TEEN Choice Awards, Kids Choice Awards and RTL Young Artist of the Year Award.

In addition to music, he has also established himself as an actor in film and television with roles in Lizzie McGuire, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, 7th Heaven and Family Affair among others. He starred on the ninth season of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, where he and his dance partner Karina Smirnoff finished fifth.

After enjoying the production of “The Fantasticks,” Julia entered the theater’s gallery, only to find her sister Reid Bailey, 14, and friend Morgan Walker, 18, posing for a photo with Carter. Carter exited the gallery just before Julia could make her way to meet him. Heartbroken, Julia buried her head on a couch beside her grandmother, Jane Wilkes.

Carter apparently saw her, and he came back into the gallery, kissed Julia on the head, gave her a big hug and posed for a photo with her.

“You should have seen their (Reid and Morgan) expressions!” Julia said, describing the way her sister and friend’s jaws dropped at all the attention Carter gave her.

Now, at the mention of Aaron Carter — or her trip to New York in general — Julia only blushes and smiles.
