BES students celebrate National Chemistry Week at USC Union

Second-graders from Buffalo Elementary School helped celebrate National Chemistry Week with the faculty and students at USC Union on Oct. 22. Dr. Helene Maire-Afeli, biology and chemistry instructor at USC Union, organized the event and assisted her university students in setting up science fair displays and models for elementary students to explore and investigate. Some experiments on display were lava lamps, making play-doh, dry ice, volcanoes, Alka Seltzer rockets, and Oobleck. The students, both college age and elementary, really enjoyed this hands on approach to science. The teachers of Buffalo Elementary were very impressed by the event and cannot wait until next year!
