PIEDMONT — Union County made itself at home on the road with a 56-28 win over Wren in the first round of III-AAA playoff action on Friday night.

“Some of our guys that we’ve been waiting on to make some plays made some plays tonight,” said Union County Head Coach Steve Taneyhill. “I think our kids outplayed their kids and that’s why we’re moving on.”

The Jackets defense was a nightmare for the Hurricanes, suffocating quarterback Jacob Clarey and picking off four of his pass attempts on the night. The Union County offense racked up over 600 total yards with 437 from the air.

With the win Union County advances to round two and will face Greer on the road next Friday night.
