UNION — Both the varsity and JV Lady Yellow Jackets suffered losses this week in volleyball action.
JV
On Wednesday, the JV team fell to Broome, 16-25 and 20-25.
“We never seemed to be in the games during Broome,” said Union County JV Coach Sherry Jackson. “Communication was off and confidence was down. I’m not sure why.”
Micaela Solis had 4 assists, 1 kill and an ace. Dynia Davis had kills. Rakendra Jeter had 1 assist. Cara Phillips had 3 aces and 2 kills.
On Thursday, the JV Jackets lost a heartbreaker to Chapman, 24-26, 25-17, and 11-15.
“I was very pleased with the effort, hustle, and overall game play,” said Jackson. “It was so much better than our last set.”
Caitlin Grant had 7 assists and an ace. Micaela Solis had 2 assists and 3 aces. Macy Scarborough had 4 kills. Dynia Davis had 3 kills and a dig. Sydney Gregory had an ace. Cara Phillips had 2 kills.
Jackson added that Mary Scarborough, Paige Foster, and Rakendra Jeter also had impressive games and that the team’s serving was much improved from Wednesday.
Varsity
The Union County varsity team fell to Laurens after five matches on Monday.
Game 1: 25-16, Laurens.
Game 2: 25-23, Union County.
Game 3: 25-9 Laurens.
Game 4: 25-20 Union County.
Game 5: 15-8, Laurens.
Makaylah Plemmons had a total of 14 kills and 1 block. Demisha Norman had 3 kills, 8 aces and 3 blocks. Chelise Morman had 4 kills, 3 blocks and 2 aces. Hyatt Edens had 5 aces and 1 block.
“It is always disappointing when we are unable to walk away with a win,” said Union County Coach Ashley Willingham. “But the girls really put up a fight, and I am very proud of their effort and hard work.”
Both teams are scheduled to host Mid-Carolina on Monday with the JV game beginning at 5:15 p.m.
