UNION — Local residents of all ages enjoyed a step back in time on Saturday as they attended the 10th annual Union County Antique Farm Equipment Show at Union County Fairgrounds.

A variety of antique tractors were on display throughout the day and were featured in a “Parade of Power,” during which the driver of each tractor was interviewed about its specifics.

The theme of this year’s event was “Cotton is King: Cotton and Cotton Production in South Carolina.” Several live cotton plants were on display, and the Rev. Carrol Caldwell led seminars about cotton — from the field to the making of fabric for clothes.

Demonstrations at the event included various lost arts such as molasses grinding, blacksmithing, chainsaw art, corn shelling and shucking, dutch oven cooking, sawmilling, woodcarving, chair making, wood splitting and sausage and lard making.

The event also featured contests such as a milking contest and a kids peddle tractor pull.

A variety of farm animals were on display in the 4-H barn along with a pool filled with shelled corn in which children 10 and under were invited to play.

With the 10th annual event behind them on Sunday, the event committee met to begin planning the 11th annual event to be held in 2013.
