'Preschool Story Time'

Children, parents, and grandparents participate in "Preschool Story Time" at Foster Park Elementary School each Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The students and parents also enjoy music and movement activities as well as educational and craft activities. If you have a infant or toddler, you are invited to participate in this program. For more information, please call the school at 864-429-1737. This program is sponsored by Save The Children/Early Steps To School Success grant at Foster Park. In the United States, Early Steps provides services in rural areas in collaboration with local schools and community agencies. Early Steps is part of Save The Children-US Programs which focuses on language development and pre-literacy, in school literacy tutoring, and after school literacy, physical fitness and nutrition programs serving children birth to age 12.

SEPTEMBER 15

THE JONESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1982 will have their 30th reunion from 6:30 p.m.-midnight at the home of Kay Faucette Fowler, 297 C Fowler Drive, Jonesville, off of Pea Ridge Highway. Classmates are asked to bring their own refreshments and lawn chairs. For more information contact Leslie Goings at 466-7759 or Kay Fowler at 466-7333.

THE OTTARAY COMMUNITY REUNION will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mon-Aetna Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. by Jeff Littlejohn from the Dairi-O with hot dogs and hamburgers just like last year. The meal will cost $7. There will also be homemade ice cream. We will need some ice cream churns and if you have one we could borrow let us know. We will also need volunteers to help with serving the meal. Several local musicians will provide the entertainment and if anyone would like to sign or play music, feel free to come up and perform. Please bring any pictures or information as we would like to take pictures of make copies. We will have several door prizes. We still need stories about Ottaray for our book. Please come and sit down with our historian and tell your story. Your name does not have to be used if you prefer it not. We would like this new book to start with the history of Ottaray up to present day happenings. Then have these stories and pictures. It has been suggested to have a memorial section at the end of the book to honor all servicemen who gave their lives in service to their country. So please come prepared with your information. THE UNION COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY will meet at 3 p.m. in the meeting room of the Union County Museum. The speaker will be Trampas Alderman, park manager at Rose Hill State Historic Site. Ranger Alderman will discuss research and some of the finding at the park. The back door will be open for those wishing to avoid the stairs. For more information call 429-5081.

THE SIMS HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1966 will have at meeting at 6 p.m. at the City of Union Municipal Building on Herndont Street in Union.

THE MCNEACE FAMILY will have their family reunion at 1 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church Family Life Center. Please come and bring a well-filled basket. Paper products will be furnished.

SEPTEMBER 17

THE MASTER GARDENERS will meet at the Clemson Extension meeting room at 6 p.m. All members, former members and anyone that is interested in helping with the flower show please try to attend. It is very important.

MONDAY NIGHT MUSIC at the Union County Arts Council Gallery on Main Street in Union from 6:30-8:30 p.m. All musicians playing any type of music are invited to attend. The public is invited to listen for free. Call UCAC at 864-429-2817 for more information.

THE WALLACE THOMSON HOSPITAL VOLUNTEERS will be sponsoring a Uniform Sale on Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 20 from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Wallace Thomson Hospital lobby. The Scrub Shop will be onsite to provide you with scrubs and shoes.

SEPTEMBER 20

THE UNION COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL will hold its 2012 Juried Art Show Reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at USC-Union’s main building. The show’s award winners will be announced and refreshments will be served. The public is invited to attend. Call UCAC at 864-429-2817 for more information.

SEPTEMBER 21

A WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP with J. Ashley Kirby will be held at the Union County Arts Council’s gallery on Main Street in Union from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 21 and Sept. 22. The gallery will be closed for regular business both days.

SEPTEMBER 22

THE JONESVILLE TOWN FESTIVAL will be held from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Main Street in the Town of Jonesville. There will be a car and bike show; musical performances throughout the day; a petting zoo, pony rides and games for the children; clowns and face painting; and food and other vendors. THE FAIRFOREST CHAPTER OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION and THE SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION will hold a ceremony at 2 p.m. at the John Palmer Cemetery. The cemetery is on Ashley Acres Road off S.C. 18.

THE CLASS OF 1963 OF SIMS HIGH SCHOOL will meet at New Horizon Christian Church in Union at 5 p.m. Plans are being made to celebrate their 50th class reunion which will be held 2013. All members are urged to attend. For more information contact Leslie Garner or Wade Hampton.
