The Union County Pony League Allstars shook off elimination four times before being put out by undefeated Chester on Thursday with a 15-1 loss.

Chester went to work in the second inning, tallying four runs off three hits.

Union answered in the third with a leadoff double to left field courtesy of Jordan Jeter. Shamar Glenn followed with an infield single and Jeter was thrown out stealing home. Brian Savage reached on a third strike passed ball and Glenn was given the green light at third, beating the throw to home for Union County’s lone run.

Chester picked up three in its portion of the inning with two hits, a walk and a sacrifice fly to take a 7-1 lead.

Union County received base runners in the fourth when Coco Smith singled to left and Franklin Thompson hit up the middle. JD Cheek reached first on a fielder’s choice, but once again a Union County runner was thrown out at home, this time to end the inning.

Chester was held scoreless in the bottom of the inning and Jeter led off the fifth with a shot up the middle. AJ Hunter singled down the third base line before Chester’s Trent Autry seated the next two batters on strikes and forced a fly out.

Chester collected two more in the fifth before tearing into Union County for six runs on its final at-bat.

Hunter singled and stole second in the seventh inning, but was left on. Union County brought home the second place trophy and Chester advanced to the state tournament in Bluffton.
