The Union Legionnaires finished out the season on Tuesday night with a 11-5 loss to the Union Junior Legion.
“I told the kids that I’m proud of them for sticking it out through a rough season,” said Legionnaires Coach Ed Wages. “I feel like they improved and learned a lot.”
Meanwhile, the Junior Legion advance to post season action and are looking for stability from the mound.
The Junior Legion used a battery of four pitchers on Tuesday night with Jayshua Gist receiving the start and Gage Eaves closing it out.
The Legionnaires’ BJ House worked from the hill for six and 1/3 innings, hurling a total of 127 pitches before being relieved by CJ Kershaw.
The Junior Legion took a 3-0 lead when Bradley McKeown blasted a three-run homer in the top of the first and added four runs off two hits in the fourth.
The Legionnaires took advantage of the opposition’s pitching woes in the bottom of the inning with Third Henderson and Mark Hardy drawing back to back walks. Tony Waters singled to load the bases and a pair of walks forced in two runs. House collected a two-RBI single and Kyle White doubled to drive in House before the Junior Legion could escape the inning, 7-5.
Dustin West and Phillip King were issued walks in the top of the seventh to give the Junior Legion a couple of base runners. Jacob Roper smacked a two run double and was driven in off a single courtesy of Gist for the 11-5 final score.
The Legionnaires played a double header last week at Inman before the two met again on Monday.
