A local singer is part of a multiple-week contest, and she needs Union County to vote for her online.
As Union resident Brittany Pridemore continues to follow her dream, pursuing a career as a professional performer, she sings anywhere and everywhere she can.
Pridemore was recently selected as one of 12 contestants — out of 40 who auditioned — to be part of an American Idol-like contest in Greer named “Greer Idol.”
Greer Idol will be held in downtown Greer over the course of six weeks, beginning on Friday, June 15. Each week, contestants will perform songs from a different genre, with contestants being eliminated after the votes — live and online — have been counted.
The first week’s genre is singer’s choice; second week, 70s and 80s music; third week, beach music; fourth week, patriotic songs; fifth week, show tunes; and the sixth and final week will be the finale, at which the final contestants will sing a song of their choice and one randomly selected by judges. The final winner will receive a grand prize of $1,500.
After the contest begins on June 15, anyone with a valid email address will be able to go to www.greeridol.com to cast a vote, and Pridemore hopes her supporters in Union County will go online and vote.
“I just want my home community to get involved,” she said. “They have always supported my singing.”
Pridemore said she will sing “Midnight Train to Georgia” for her first performance, which is singer’s choice.
In addition to her singing career, Pridemore also works full time at Wallace Thomson Hospital as a registrar and insurance identifier for Dr. Anterpreet Dua and attends Phoenix University online, majoring in health care management. Her first love, however, will always be singing.
Pridemore first realized her passion for singing as a small child.
“I performed ‘My Heart Will Go On’ by Celine Dion at the first annual Union County Stars talent show when I was 8,” she said. “Before that, I had never performed in front of a lot of people, only family.”
She did not place that year, but she continued to perform for the next six-seven years, placing each time. Along the way, Pridemore began performing at church, local festivals, and the Union County Fair, and at age 14, she took advantage of an opportunity to perform on television, performing “I Go To the Rock” by Whitney Houston in the Christian Artists Talent Search on The Inspiration Network.
Pridemore recently signed with Z-1 Models and Talent in Chester and will participate in the company’s annual convention this summer, working with and getting lessons from professional performers and agents.
“It will be a good opportunity to get experience in front of a seasoned crowd,” she said, elaborating on the benefits of working with Z-1 Models and Talent. “It has been fun and educational. It really helps being around other performers.”
Pridemore will also sing on WSPA Channel 7’s “Your Carolina with Jack and Kimberly” on July 27, and her upcoming live events include Chester’s Hog on the Hill and Hilarity festivals, as well as the Piedmont Interstate Fair in Spartanburg, of which she is also helping organize the entertainment.
Pridemore gives credit to the support of her family and her boyfriend, Jeff Kelley.
“If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be able to do all this stuff,” she said. “He helps me keep my faith. He reminds me about the big picture and the long run, and he inspires me when I get stressed.”
