Sixth grade authors

Budding authors and artists were spotlighted Tuesday, April 24, when Union County Schools held its 10th annual District Anthology Celebration at Sims Middle School. Students from across the county were recognized for their outstanding writing and/or art work. The sixth grade authors recognized included Laura Parris, Texas Melton, Kira Reardon, Jordan Smith, Grant Harris, Laura Parris, and Rebecca Lee.

This year’s District Anthology is entitled Plant The Seed of Creativity and Watch Your Imagination Grow! This publication is a collection of student writing and art work from every school in the district. Student pieces were submitted by teachers in grades kindergarten through 12. A panel of judges was convened at each school to choose pieces to be included in the publication. Each student recognized at the celebration received a complimentary copy of the District Anthology. Anyone interested in purchasing a copy of the anthology can contact Anne L. Rampey at Buffalo Elementary School at 429-1730, Ext. 26. The cost is $5.

THE UNION COUNTY BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION will meet at 7 p.m. in the Clemson Extension Meeting Room. All interested in beekeeping are invited. Program will be harvesting honey.

JUNE 7

THE JUNE COMMUNITY PRAYER MEETING will be held at noon at the USC-Union gazebo. Everyone is invited to come for a brief time of prayer for our community, our state, and our nation. If you cannot be there, try to take time for special prayer at noon or sometime during the day.

JUNE 10

THE GREER FAMILY REUNION for descendants of C. Lester and Martha V. Greer will be held in the Sardis United Methodist Church Social Hall with lunch at 1 p.m. Each family is asked to bring a well-filled basket. Plates, cups and utensils will be furnished.

JUNE 16

SIMS HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1968 is sponsoring a sightseeing trip to Charleston, departing from the old Wal-Mart parking lot. For information call Betsy at 864-674-6799.

MUSGROVE MILL will cater to kids 5-15, 9 a.m.-noon. Activities include cornhusk doll making, guided hikes and survival skill training. Small fee required. UNION HIGH SCHOOOL CLASS OF 1992 will host their 20th reunion June 22-24. Final registration deadline will be May 26 at Quality Inn, Duncan Bypass. You must register and pay in full to attend the reunion.

JUNE 25

SUMMER DRAMA CAMP will be held at Union County High School for ages 6-12, June 25-29, 9 a.m.-noon with instructor Ralph Lawson. Register and pay fees at Union County Arts Council, Main Street. Proceeds benefit UCHS drama department. For information call 429-2817 or 427-1709.

A VETERANS ADVOCATE is in Union every third Friday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the One Stop, 440 Duncan Hwy., to discuss eligibility for healthcare, pension, disability and more.

THE NEW EMANUEL BAPTIST CHURCH has opened a free clothes closet in the back of the Municipal Building in Jonesville. Hours of operation will be Tuesday and Friday 9:30 a.m.-noon.

UNION COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL will host Jam With Lunch first Thursday of each month, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at UCAC on Main Street

UNION COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL will host Jam With Supper third Monday of each month, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Open to all musicians playing any type of music. Also free to any audience member. Begins in June at UCAC on Main Street.
