THE LIBRARY WILL BE CLOSED MEMORIAL DAY, MAY 28, 2012

Upcoming Events

The American Road to Victory Trilogy

The Union County Carnegie Library, in conjunction with the Friends of the Library and the Elks Club of Union, brings you the opportunity to explore battlefields of World War II on June 7, 2012, September 27, 2012 and January 10, 2013 and meet some of the brave men who were there. The American Road to Victory trilogy presentations will be at the Elks Club of Union and each film screening will begin at 6:30 p.m. The Americans on D-Day (film presentation on June 7, 2012) provides a real-time look at one of the most momentous battles of World War II. The director of this trilogy, Richard Lanni, will be at this screening. Shot at the actual time each event took place, each scene also features a digital clock showing the time of day or night when the action described took place on June 6, 1944. Looking over von Seibold’s shoulder, we get a new appreciation for the close proximity that existed between American soldiers on a featureless beach and the German bunkers from which fire and death rained down upon them. And when von Seibold stands in a shell crater deeper than he is tall, it is easy to imagine the fear German defenders must have felt as large naval shells exploded close to their positions.
