GREER - Union County's girls' tennis team defeated Greer 7-0 on Wednesday.
Lauren Harrison won 6-2, 6-2 over Jessie Buckley; Hillary Smith won 6-0, 6-1 over Anna Miller; Abby Allen won 6-0, 6-0 over Lindsay King; Kelsey Harris won 6-0, 6-1 over Devin Gibson; Kristen Martin won 6-2 , 6-1 over Courtney Garrett.
In doubles, Harrison and Harris defeated Miller and Buckley 8-4; Rachel Jones and Brittany Ledford won 6-1, 6-2 over Haley Johnson and Emily Griffin.
Victoria Barker won a singles match 8-0
“Everyone played well against Greer tonight,” said coach Kelly Jenkins. “It was an impressive win for us.”
UCHS (11-5) travels to Woodruff today.
Geyer named top player
Whitmire basketball star Kim Geyer has been named one of the top 5 1-A seniors in the state.
“I am truly excited for Kim and very proud of her accomplishments,” said coach Kim Shelton. “As she approaches her final season as a Lady Wovlerine, I hope she will continue to work hard.”
Woodruff downs Sims
Woodruff defeated Sims' 7th grade football team 40-6 on Wednesday at Union County Stadium.
Jermaine Lindsay scored on a 65-yard run for the Tigers' only points.
Sims (3-3) travels to Boiling Springs next week. The 8th grade team travels to Woodruff today.
Stinger champs
The Steelers won the Stinger Football Championship on Wednesday with a 38-16 win over the Vikings at Union County Stadium. Team roster: Ty Thompson, Z'Jaonde Jones, Tykeil Fleming, Princeton Hunter, Anthony Hunter, D'Andrea Jennings, Shemar Glenn, Michael Guinn, Decorrias Jeter, Tyderius Glenn, Delontia Epps, J.J.
