SPARTANBURG - Post 22 fell, 6-2, to Spartanburg on Monday in American Legion play.

Gene Vinson pitched for Union into the seventh inning. He had four strikeouts and gave up seven hits. JC Briggs closed the game.

Post 22 didn't get the hits, leaving the bases loaded three times. Union's only runs came in the sixth when Chesney Simmons hit a double to drive in Buck Mosteller and Tyler Adams, whom reached on a single and a walk.

For the night, Nate Richards had a single and two walks; Michael Cobb had a walk, Mosteller had two singles; Tyler Adams got a walk; Simmons had a double and a walk; Vinson had a single and a walk; Anthony Smith had a hit and a walk; and Rob Littlejohn had a sacrifice bunt.

“We could have done a little better with the bats,” said coach Jay Ford.

Post 22 has nine games left. Ford believes Union can win them all and make the playoffs. He said the team has its starting pitchers - Simmons, Vinson and Mosteller - back, plus Briggs, Adams, Owens and Cobb in relief.

“If we come together and hit the ball, I believe we can win,” said Ford.

Post 22 hosts Greer today. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
