Students will get the chance to help the less fortunate this weekend and win a pizza party in the process.
“A Day of Giving” will be held from 8-11 a.m. Saturday in the Union County High School gym. Wyshell Garrett, president of Yummie Entertainment, said the event will involve collections of unwrapped Christmas toys, canned food and winter coats. The items collected will be given to the Salvation Army for distribution Tuesday.
Ms. Garrett said the idea behind the Day of Giving is to get young people more involved with helping those less fortunate.
Doughnuts and coffee will be served during the event, which is also a competition between the homerooms at the high school, Sims Junior High and Excelsior Middle School. When a student arrives at UCHS they will be asked their name, their homeroom teacher's name and the number of items they're dropping off. A point will be awarded for each item and the homeroom with the most points will win a pizza party after Christmas break.
Yummie Entertainment has sponsored “Teen Night” at the Union County YMCA over the last four months. The events provide recreational activities including dance contests for local teens.
