Union County’s tennis team enjoyed a successful season with the Yellow Jackets finishing in second place in Region III-3A and earning a playoff berth.
The Jackets’ (11-8) strong run ended Thursday as they dropped a 6-1 match vs. Travelers Rest in the first round of the 3A upper state boys tennis playoffs.
Union County’s Matt Haney finished an undefeated season (18-0) by recording a 6-4, 6-4 victory in No. 3 singles.
Union County coach Tom Adamo said reaching the playoffs was a milestone for his team. “We’re still pretty young and looking forward to next year,” he said. “We were surprised to even reach the playoffs as it’s difficult to reach them at the 3A level.”
