UNION — An investigation of an incident which occurred on May 13 led to a Union man being charged with attempted murder on Thursday.

Joseph David Bradley, 62, of 132 Sinclair Road, Union, was charged with attempted murder around 7:35 p.m. on May 16.

According to the arrest warrant, Bradley — with malice aforethought — stabbed a woman with a knife numerous times in the neck and chest while at an address on Ravenscroft Street in Union.

On May 13, Union Public Safety officers responded to an address on Ravenscroft Street after an assault was reported by the neighbor of a woman who came to his door and asked for help. When officers arrived, the neighbor stood near the woman’s house, and then the woman and Bradley came outside arguing. Officers noticed the woman’s shirt was covered with blood and that she was bleeding from the mouth. Bradley had blood on his forehead and on the chest area of his shirt. Both Bradley and the victim told officers that a third party had come and attacked them with a knife. The knife was turned over to an investigator, and both Bradley and the victim were transported to Wallace Thomson Hospital.

While still on the scene May 13, officers noticed a puddle of blood under the front passenger side floor board of Bradley’s truck, along with an open bottle of vodka. After being checked at Wallace Thomson Hospital, Bradley was transported to Union County Jail for public drunk.

After the case was investigated, Bradley was charged with attempted murder.

The Union Public Safety Department also reported the following arrests:

— Christopher Shane Smith, 34, of 216 Kelly Road, Union, was charged with trespassing after notice and possession of a controlled substance around 6:01 p.m. on May 16. According to the arrest warrants, Smith was at a property on East Lee Street, Union, for which he was already on trespass notice, and he had a quantity of pills which were Schedule III narcotics while at an address on Tillman Street, Union.

— Amy Lynn Lewis, 29, of 18 Alice Ave., Belmont, N.C., was charged with disorderly conduct around 11 p.m. on May 16. According to the incident report, Lewis caused a disturbance at a residence on Highland Drive, Union.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
