Jacob Robbins honored for outstanding academic achievement at The Citadel

CHARLESTON, — Jacob Newell Robbins of Union, S.C., was recently honored for outstanding academic achievement at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, during the fall semester of the 2012-2013 academic year.

Robbins earned one of the college’s top academic honors, a Gold Star. Gold Stars are presented to students who achieve a 3.7 grade point average or higher during a semester’s course work. Gold Stars are worn on the collar of the cadet full dress and dress uniforms and the summer leave uniform.

Gold Star recipients will be recognized during a military dress parade on Jan. 25.

Robbins has also been named to the Dean’s List at The Citadel for academic achievement during the fall semester of the 2012-2013 academic year.

Dean’s List recognition is given to those students whose grade point average is 3.2 or higher with no grade below a C for the previous semester’s work.

Robbins is a cadet seeking a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice at The Citadel.

The Citadel, founded in 1842, is a public, coeducational military college in Charleston, S.C., that offers a classic military education for young men and women seeking a college experience that is meaningful, academically strong and is focused on educating and developing principled leaders.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
