Saturday, May 25

9 a.m.: Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 201 Terrapin Road, Union, hosts a prayer breakfast. Guest speaker will be Minister Verlinda Mintz of Concord Baptist Church, Gaffney. A $5 donation will be taken at the door for those who wish to join us for breakfast. All proceeds will benefit the Pastor’s Aid Committee.

Sunday, May 26

1 p.m.: The Missionary Auxiliary of St. Luke Baptist Church, 718 Lukesville Road, Buffalo, observes Women’s Day. The theme will be “How Sisters Act.” The speaker will be Mrs. Dianne Garner. Dinner will be served immediately following the service. Rev. George W. Shell Jr., pastor. Mrs. Gloria G. Shell, president.

2 p.m.: Mt. Rowell Baptist Church holds its Men’s Day Program. Rev. George Shears, Pastor of Mt. Hopewell Baptist Church in Lockhart, S.C. will be our Guest Preacher. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend this program. Rev. K. Russell Sheppard is the host pastor.

2:30 p.m.: The New Chapel AME Church holds Youth Worship Services. The speaker will be Miss Cierra Broadus Johnson. We hope to see you there. Rev. Carolyn Evans, pastor.

2:30 p.m.: Mt. Olive Missionary Society sponsors its annual Women’s Day Program. The theme will be “Women of Power.” The speaker will be Sister Kathie Greer. Her topic will be “By Your Word.”

3 p.m.: The Sisters in Christ Dance Ministry of Friendship Baptist Church, 250 Morning Drive, Spartanburg, holds their anniversary program. The Rev. Dr. Brenda G. Watt will be the speaker. The public is invited. The Rev. Dr. Michael A. Glenn is church pastor.

Sunday, June 2-Thursday, June 6

6-8:30 p.m.: Grace United Methodist Church invites children to Kingdom Rock VBS: Where Kids Stand Strong for God. A summer kids’ event called Kingdom Rock will be hosted at Grace United Methodist Church from June 2 through June 6 from 6-8:30 p.m. each evening. At Kingdom Rock, kids participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, make and dig into yummy treats, experience epic Bible adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies to remind them to stand strong, and test out Sciency-Fun Gizmos they’ll take home and play with all summer long.

Kids will learn to look for evidence of God all around them through something called God Sightings. Kingdom Rock is for kids from age 3 to 5th grade. The family kick-off event will be on Sunday, June 2 at 6 p.m. There will be a Big Slide, Praise Band — “Piercing the Darkness,” hot dogs, lemonade, popcorn and games. Ongoing Events

Mitchell Chapel Christian Church, 381 Kelly Road in Union, holds services at its new location, 143 Camelot Drive in Union.

A Moms in Prayer group meets at 10 a.m. Tuesdays in the Family Ministry Center of Bethel United Methodist Church, 1705 Lockhart Highway. All interested persons are invited to participate.

The Missionary Auxiliary of the Pacolet River Baptist Association has an Emergency Food Pantry in the rear (annex) of the town hall in Jonesville. The pantry is open Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon and other times by calling the numbers posted on the sign at the entrance of the annex. Bring identification and proof residence.

New Emanuel Chapel Baptist Church has changed its services times to 9 a.m. for Sunday School and 10 a.m. for Praise and Worship.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
