UNION — Dogs brought their owners to the Union County Carnegie Library Saturday for a morning of awards, refreshments and lots of fun.

In honor of national Be Kind to Animals Week, the Union County Humane Society sponsored its annual dog show on the library’s front lawn. After a brief promenade for judges, each contestant was awarded a blue ribbon and a certificate describing the pet’s best characteristic.

This year’s contest included 30 entrants and over 75 attendees. Deena Blackwell of the Union County Humane Society said she believes Mother’s Day weekend was a good time for the event because several people who were visiting from out of town attended Saturday’s dog show. Blackwell also said the weather was perfect for spending the morning out and about with a pet.

Show judges were Ben Loftis, Mike Stevens and Michael Rupp.

A trophy was awarded for “Best in Show” to Brandon Trammell for his dog T-Bone.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
