
UNION — Union County trailed by as many as four runs before the bats lit up and the Lady Jackets claimed a 13-8 win over Seneca to advance to the Upperstate finale where they’ll get a rematch with Daniel.
In the third round of Class 3A playoffs, Seneca took a 4-0 lead in the first inning but Union County cut the margin in half on the bottom of the third when Abby Allen belted a 2-run homer over the left field fence.
The Lady Jackets piled on four runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-4 lead but Seneca answered with a 2-run blast of its own courtesy of Britton Young to tie the game at 6-6.
Kendall Henderson tagged an RBI double in the bottom of the inning to help Union County re-claim the lead and then five runs on six hits and an error in the sixth made it a 13-6 ballgame.
Seneca scratched two runs across in the top of the seventh inning before Union County recorded the 13-8 victory.
Hannah Sailors tossed five innings for the Jackets before being relieved by Payton Martin who picked up the win from the hill.
Union County touched up Seneca’s pitching staff for 15 hits while limiting the Bobcats to eight.
Tonight (Thursday) the Lady Jackets face Daniel on the road at 5:30. The Lions defeated Union County on Tuesday, 4-0, and have not been beaten in post-season play. A Union County win tonight would force a second game to follow for the Upperstate title.
