Union County High School wide-receiver T.J. Foster has decided to take his football talents to Louisville next year. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound 2014 prospect received two offers in early March (one from Louisville and one from Eastern Carolina). On Friday, he sported a Cardinals t-shirt around UCHS before declaring his intentions and making a verbal commitment to Louisville.
“I visited Louisville back in April and I really like the campus,” said Foster. “I also like the coaches and the school’s academic program.”
Foster was a critical piece of the puzzle for Union County last year and his progression during the Jackets’ state championship run was especially remarkable.
Union County Head Coach Steve Taneyhill began utilizing Foster’s speed on both sides of the ball towards the end of last season, a move that paid dividends. Foster snagged three touchdowns and an interception against Wren in the first round of 3A playoffs. He also scored on a 42-yard touchdown reception against A.C. Flora to to help the Jackets advance to the Upperstate Championship.
“T.J. was our best wide receiver in the playoffs,” said Taneyhill. “He has great hands and he catches nothing in on his body. He’ll have to work at Louisville, but he’s going into a good situation with them moving to the ACC and I really like Coach (Charlie) Strong. This is a great opportunity for T.J.”
Foster feels good about his decision.
“I think I should fit in well at Louisville,” he said. “I really like their offense. I think my speed and ability to make big plays will really help me be an impact player there.”
