Civil War Day
Third grade students at Monarch Elementary School recently had a Civil War Day where they enjoyed seeing artifacts about Southern History brought in by Mrs. Joan Stevens of West Springs, aunt of third grade teacher, Tami Garrett. Mrs Stevens also came in period dress, and brought "hardtack" and beef jerky for students to sample (like the soldiers ate during the war). Students also enjoyed presentations about Sherman's March, the importance of Charleston, S.C., during the war, and read-a-louds about this time in history.
