UNION COUNTY — Nearly two-thirds of the students who signed up this week for summer classes at Spartanburg Community College will take them at the Union County Advanced Technology Center.
Kathy Jo Lancaster, technology center site coordinator, said that a total of 65 Union County residents signed up for summer classes during on-site registration conducted by SCC at the center on Monday. Of those, Lancaster said approximately 40 will take their classes at the center while the rest will take them at the main SCC campus in Spartanburg. She said the number of those taking classes at the center could increase between now and the start of the summer session on Monday, May 20.
Lancaster said the most popular courses at the center are the welding classes which she said are full. She said a total of 15 people registered to take the classes and that there’s a waiting list of others who wanted to. If some of those who are registered do not show up when classes start May 20, Lancaster said those on the waiting list will be allowed to take their place.
Monday’s registration also attracted a number of graduating Union County High School seniors.
“One thing that we saw yesterday that we hadn’t seen before is the high school graduates who are graduating next week come in and register for their fall classes,” Lancaster said. “We had approximately 15 who did that. It’s something we haven’t see before.”
