10 a.m.: Corinth Baptist Church holds Health Watch. Gary NeSmith, physical therapist and owner of Austin Rehab, will be the guest speaker. All are welcome. Lois A. Lyles and Amelia Glenn, Facilitators. Rev. J. Archie Calhoun, Pastor.

Sunday, May 19

10 a.m.: New Hope Baptist Church, Linersville Road, Buffalo, holds Homecoming featuring Soul Vision from Brevard, N.C. Everyone welcome. Rev. Johnny Burgess, Pastor.

10 a.m.: Corinth Baptist Church hosts the closing session of the 2013 “Still I Rise” program, a community service organization. Guest speaker will be Joe Woods, a Union native and author of “Chasing Peace,” “The Next Step — Leadership,” and “What’s In A Tree.” Mr. Woods states that his mission in life is to change this world one person at a time.

10 a.m.: Zion Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church observes Women’s Day during their morning worship services. The guest speaker will be Rev. Juanita Giles, Antioch AME Church in Union, S.C. Rev. Giles is the wife of Howard and mother to Kristin and Shemar. She is the daughter of Robert and the late Daisy Henderson. Zion Pilgrim is located at 3030 Pinckney Road, Chester S.C. Rev. Donnie D. Dye is the pastor.

11 a.m.: The Ushers Ministry of Friendship Baptist Church, 250 Morning Drive, Spartanburg, holds their annual program. Rev. Terry Glasgow of Monks Grove Baptist Church will be the speaker. The public is invited. The Rev. Dr. Michael A. Glenn is church pastor.

2-4 p.m.: Buffalo United Methodist Church will celebrate the Rev. and Mrs. Kevin Dalton’s nine years of caring service to the church and Union County in the church fellowship hall.

2:30 p.m.: New Horizon Church holds Revival/Homecoming Service. Rev. Charlie Jennings will be guest speaker. Orlando S. Allen, Pastor.

3 p.m.: Mitchell Chapel Christian Church holds a One-Day Revival/Ribbon Cutting. The Rev. George Sims from Mt. Prospect Baptist Church will be guest speaker for the event. The public is invited. The Rev. Tony and Rev. Laquita Griffin, Pastors.

Revivals/Other Events

The 136th Annual Session of the Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of S.C. will convene on May 5-11 at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Spartanburg, South Carolina. Dr. Benjamin D. Snoddy and the Spartanburg Association Family will serve as hosts. Our Welcome Night speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Stephen Thurston, President of the National Baptist Convention of America. All services will be held at the church. Please mark your calendars for the President’s Educational Banquet, which will be held on Wednesday, May 8at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel, 299 N. Church St., Spartanburg, South Carolina 29306, at 6:30 p.m. The speaker will be Dr. Clarence Moore, Vice President of the Southeastern Region of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.

Ongoing Events

Mitchell Chapel Christian Church, 381 Kelly Road in Union, holds services at its new location, 143 Camelot Drive in Union.

A Moms in Prayer group meets at 10 a.m. Tuesdays in the Family Ministry Center of Bethel United Methodist Church, 1705 Lockhart Highway. All interested persons are invited to participate.

The Missionary Auxiliary of the Pacolet River Baptist Association has an Emergency Food Pantry in the rear (annex) of the town hall in Jonesville. The pantry is open Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon and other times by calling the numbers posted on the sign at the entrance of the annex. Bring identification and proof residence.

Covenant Baptist Church will have a Sunday meal once a month for Relay For Life. The meals will be held at 12:30 p.m. on February 17, March 17, and April 21. Call Ponnee at 427-3102.

New Emanuel Chapel Baptist Church has changed its services times to 9 a.m. for Sunday School and 10 a.m. for Praise and Worship.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
