ABBEVILLE — On Jan. 26, 2013, the Abbeville Cotillion Club will present two lovely ladies at the 59th Annual Winter Ball. This will be held at the Abbeville, South Carolina National Guard Armory.

They are twin sisters, Miss Brittany Shirley Sumner and Miss Megan Elizabeth Sumner, the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mark Sumner of Abbeville, South Carolina.

They are the paternal granddaughters of Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Sumner of Abbeville, South Carolina and the maternal granddaughters of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Alexander and the late Shirley Hawkins Alexander of Union. South Carolina.

The Presentation of the Debutantes will begin with a trumpet fanfare for each debutante and then the Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Roddy Gray of Abbeville, introduces the debutantes and individually they will descend from the entry steps of the armory. There, each debutante will meet her father. She will curtsy and, on her father’s arm, proceed to the front of the stage where her marshal and escort are waiting, and so on for each debutante.

Then the debutantes will go to the center of the arena for a presentation of flowers to their mothers. This includes two curtsies. Once back to their original position, the debutante will take the arm of her marshal and escort and they will proceed around the arena. The Master of Ceremony will introduce the marshal and then he will drop off. The debutante and escort will go to the Officers of the Club and she will curtsy, then she and her escort will proceed around the arena as the Master of Ceremony introduces her escort.

Once back in the place of origin, each marshal and escort will lead the debutante around the arena for the Grand March.

Then the escort will deliver the debutante to her father for the Father-Daughter dance. Then the Ball begins.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
