UNION — A 25-year-old Union man sought by authorities in connection with a fatal stabbing over the weekend was in custody Monday afternoon in a North Carolina hospital where he was being treated for injuries he received in the incident.

Union County Sheriff David Taylor said Landon Blaine Turner was taken into custody at a hospital in Mecklenburg County, N.C., at 1 p.m. by himself, Capt. Robbie Hines and Lt. Terry Humphries with the assistance of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The stabbing victim, Ryan O. Allen, was transported to Wallace Thomson Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:48 p.m. Saturday, according to Union County Deputy Coroner John Fallaw. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday morning in Newberry.

While he declined to identify the hospital, Taylor said Turner will be held there while being treated for injuries he received during the Saturday night incident in Monarch. Taylor described Turner’s injuries as non life-threatening.

Turner will be taken to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Jail once he is released from the hospital and will be held there while he awaits extradition to Union County, Taylor said.

Taylor said that he, Hines and Humphries interviewed Turner after he was taken into custody. He declined to provide details about the interview but did say Turner will be charged with murder and that additional charges are a possibility.

“Although a lot of progress has been made in this case, this is still an on-going investigation,” Taylor said. “I do expect more arrests in this case.”

Deputies were dispatched at 9:40 p.m. Saturday to the 200 block of Arthur Street in the Monarch community to a report of a disturbance.

While en route, deputies were informed that knives were involved and that two stabbing victims — identified in the report as Lorenzo Mandrell Glenn and Brian Young — had shown up at Wallace Thomson Hospital while a third was being treated at the scene by Union County EMS personnel.

When deputies arrived at the scene they found a large crowd gathered near 100 Arthur St. and EMS personnel treating Allen, who was on the ground.

The report issued by the sheriff’s office states that after interviewing Glenn, Young and witnesses, deputies identified the assailant as Turner who had fled the scene. Authorities asked the public for help in locating Turner.

As for whether Turner would be charged with stabbing Glenn and Young, Taylor said a decision will be made on that after he speaks with 16th Circuit Solicitor Kevin Brackett. Taylor said the first priority is getting a warrant for Turner’s arrest signed and taking him into custody.

Taylor would not comment on how Turner got from Union County to Mecklenburg County, saying only that it was still under investigation. He did say Turner told him and the other investigators that he had been staying at a residence on Buffalo Street in Buffalo at the time of the stabbing.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
