Yellow Jackets face Clinton tonight; team coming off 92-80 win

Union County has a chance tonight to grab its second road victory in a row and help secure a No. 2-seed playoff position when it travels to face Clinton.

The Yellow Jackets defeated Clinton in January 66-64 in overtime. During that game, Union County overcame a three-point deficit with mere seconds remaining to beat Clinton. Tip-off for tonight’s game is 7:30 p.m.

Union County flexed their offensive muscle Friday night defeating Chapman 92-80.

The Yellow Jackets made nine three-point shots and were 22-30 from the free-throw line.

Union County built a 19-point lead during the second period before Chapman cut the lead down to eight points going into halftime.

During the second half, Union County continued to make their shots including several clutch free throws during the fourth period.

Brandon Stapleton, who was a perfect 10-10 from the free-throw line, and Desmond Floyd led Union County in scoring with 19 points.

Brett Smith scored 17 points, Telvin Dawkins had 16 points, Joe Beatty scored eight points, Michael Mebane had seven points, T.J. Jeter scored four points and Quabel Henderson had two points.

Union County (11-10 overall, 6-2 region) will close out the regular season Thursday when it hosts Greer for Senior Night.

The Lady Jackets pulled off a 59-57 victory over Chapman on Friday night.

Next, the Lady Jackets (7-11 overall, 3-5 region) will take on Clinton 6 p.m. tonight on the road.
