Jonesville Middle School picked up a pair of wins Thursday night when Lockhart Middle came to battle on the hardwood. In a back and forth contest that came down to the last second, the Lady Wildcats took a 17-16 victory. Jonesville’s Rye Ray led all scorers with 10 points. Texas Melton chipped in four points for the Wildcats and Vashti Wood added three.
“We saw some things that we did well but we also saw some things that need improvement,” said Jonesville Coach Lashon Rogers after the game. “We missed a lot of layups and that’s something we’ll keep working on. The defensive effort was good tonight and we’re happy about the win.”
Lockhart was led by Heather Petty with eight points while Shelia Lindsey and Elizabeth Parks each netted four.
In boys action the Wildcats capitalized on costly Red Devil mistakes to snatch a 28-22 win. Lockhart relinquished a seven point halftime lead and had two starters to foul out.
Hunter Plemons paced the Devils with seven points and Ethan Bailey contributed six. Ryan Vaughan tallied four points before being sidelined with five fouls. Dalton Vinson had three points and Zach Gordon added two before joining Vaughan on the bench with five fouls.
