A Bad Hunting Trip
I just got this picture of Bubba Jim who went to Alaska to hunt moose. Apparently the hunting trip was less than successful for him as it was for the “mooses.” Okay, teachers, what is the plural of “moose?” Relax, Bubba Jim got away and is on his way back home. He tells me he is going to stay home and hunt “snipes” from now on.
A Teacher’s Plight
After being interviewed by the school administration, the prospective teacher said: “Let me see if I’ve got this right. You want me to go into that room with all those kids, correct their disruptive behavior, observe them for signs of abuse, monitor their dress habits, censor their T-shirt messages, and instill in them a love for learning.
“You want me to check their backpacks for weapons, wage war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, and raise their sense of self esteem and personal pride.
“You want me to teach them patriotism and good citizenship, sportsmanship and fair play, and how to register to vote, balance a checkbook, and apply for a job.
“You want me to check their heads for lice, recognize signs of antisocial behavior, and make sure that they all pass the final exams.
“You also want me to provide them with an equal education regardless of their handicaps, and communicate regularly with their parents in English, Spanish or any other language, by letter, telephone, newsletter, and report card.
“You want me to do all this with a piece of chalk, a blackboard, a bulletin board, a few books, a big smile, and a starting salary that qualifies me for food stamps.
“You want me to do all this, and then you tell me……

Anyone Need Food?
Earlier this month Anzie and I went to the Jonesville Food Auction, not knowing really what to expect. To our joy, we brought home some really good food at some unbelievable prices! Plus, we had fellowship with many people from Buffalo and Union. It was like a “community reunion.” We have been eating the food we bought and it is really go-o-o-o-d-d-d.
Nowadays, Anzie and I sometimes do not have enough money to pay attention. So when I find something that can bless others in the same financial shape we are in, I want to share this with you. Auctioneer John is a Christian brother, as is his family. On Friday, February 8 (the second Friday of the month), John is having another food auction. I cannot remember the dealer’s name, but we had a great conversation together. I hope you will plan to join us and other Buffalo folks at 7 p.m. at the Jonesville Food Auction in Jonesville.

Happy Anniversary
to two wonderful couples celebrating their wedding anniversaries on the same day. Congratulations go out to Russ and Rhonda Sanders and Ernell and Sherry Johnson. The only question I have is who was married first? Anyway, my warmest congratulations to these wonderful, loving couples.
Wrong E-mail
A Minneapolis couple decided to go to Florida to thaw out during a particularly icy winter. They planned to stay at the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years earlier.
Because of hectic schedules, it was difficult to coordinate their travel schedules. So, the husband left Minnesota and flew to Florida on Thursday, with his wife flying down the following day. The husband checked into the hotel. To his surprise and enjoyment there was a computer in his room, so he decided to send a e-mail to his wife. However, he accidentally left out one letter in her e-mail address, and without realizing his error, he clicked and sent the e-mail.
Meanwhile, somewhere in Houston, a widow had just returned home from her husband’s funeral. He was a minister who was called home to glory following a heart attack. The widow decided to check her e-mail expecting messages from relatives and friends. After reading the first message, she screamed and fainted. The widow’s son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and saw the computer screen which read:
To: My Loving Wife Subject: I’ve Arrived Date: January 16, 2013. I know you’re surprised to hear from me. They have computers here now and you are allowed to send emails to your loved ones. I’ve just arrived and have been checked in. I see that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you then! Hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was.
PS. Sure is some kind of hot down here!
Prayer Concerns
Let’s keep Connie Burgess in our prayers. There are many people in Union County fighting this terrible disease and each one needs our devoted prayers. Even doctors have admitted that prayer is a great tool for healing in the life of a person. Let’s keep Gene Gregory in our prayers that his injured foot will heal. Don Moore, my neighbor, needs our prayers as well.
So often we pray for those who are sick, but forget to pray for those who are the caregivers. So, with the ones that I just mentioned, let’s pray for Johnny Burgess, Ann Moore, and Barbara Gregory as they try to take care of their life-mates during this time of sickness.
My Thoughts: Encouragement
Encouragement is something that we can freely give to everyone because it costs us nothing to give away and gives us strength as we receive it. The following story demonstrates the kind of encouragement that pleases God.
“One writer observed a mother walking with a small handicapped child whose both legs were in braces. He was having a difficult time but his mother was right there with him encouraging him at every step. “That’s great! You’re doing splendidly,” she kept repeating.
“I want to run,” the boy called. “Very well, try it,” his mother encouraged enthusiastically. As he did, he tripped and almost fell and would have except his mother was right there beside him and caught him so he wouldn’t hurt himself. “You did fine,” she said again, “and next time you will do even better.”
God, too, knows our limitations. He sees our brokenness and doesn’t expect us to be able to make it alone. He knows we can’t run with a broken leg. He also knows we can’t live the Christian life without help and encouragement. He wants us to know that He is right there beside us to encourage us to keep trying and to keep growing and become stronger.
God also knows that we need supporting friends to encourage us, to help keep us on track, and to keep us accountable-as none of us can make it alone. “Let us encourage one another.” (Hebrews 10:25)
