Aren’t there a lot of religions today? There really are too many to count and all of them have their own deity. I’m sure some of the religions started with pure motives but I’m aware of some that were started with the intention of gaining personal popularity and vast wealth. I’m wondering if this wicked mindset has crept into the Christian circles?

I hear more and more of preachers and members of the local church continually make disparaging remarks and condemning other Christians in attempts to build themselves up and appear more “holy” and closer to God. They feel that if they can tear others down then they will appear to be more “Christ-like” and their churches will grow and there-by making them appear to be more successful.

I heard a story once about a man in England who lived in the same time period that most of the early Puritan preachers did. He would go hear these powerhouse preachers and leave saying, “Wow, what a preacher!” This man was invited to come hear another great preacher by the name of Charles H. Spurgeon. When he left the meeting he wasn’t bragging on how great the preacher was. Rather he was proclaiming, “O, what a Savior!”

It is my prayer that we as children of the Most High will get our very being directed back toward the wonderful Savior that saved our eternal souls from an everlasting Hell. We have for too long had “Preacher religion” and lifted up the man of God instead of lifting up the God that created man. We have gotten to where we worship the preacher more than the Lord God Almighty.

Don’t misunderstand me. I love God-called preachers and am one myself. But the fact is we don’t have to make a name for ourselves. We don’t have to be known in certain circles. We don’t even have to be liked or understood by the “brethren.” Our goal is not to see how many invitations we get to preach revivals and camp-meetings. We are not to be concerned with how well known our name is. We simply have to be obedient and faithful to God’s call. God called us to spread the gospel not to judge or deliver sentencing to those who are condemned. That is the Holy Spirit’s job. We just have a message to tell.

When we come before the judgment from the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, I won’t have to give an account to the brethren, any association, or any board. I’ll give an account to the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone for the deeds done in my Christian life.

So let me encourage you, when others are out gossiping, lying, and spreading discord to hurt the cause of Christ, lets keep spreading the gospel. There is enough bad news in this world. Lets share the good news of God’s wonderful grace offered through the eternal sacrifice of His only begotten son Jesus Christ. Then we will see God save sin-sick souls and they will proclaim as we do, “Oh, what a Savior!”

Tune in to WBCU 103.5 FM Sundays at noon for the Shining Light Broadcast. I preach a 15-minute message that I pray will be a blessing to those who listen.
