How many of you love a piece of a warm, homemade, moist pound cake? I can just imagine most of you are saying “Amen!”

There are not many desserts better than a thick slice of pound cake with a hot cup of coffee, at least in my opinion. It amazes me how you can take so many different ingredients and mix them all together to create something that taste so good.

Now there is a process of the different ingredients being placed into a heated situation for it to come out better than it went in. I’ve never ate a mouthful of flour by itself or got a spoonful of lard to eat. I don’t like raw eggs and although as a child I enjoyed butter by itself, I don’t sit around eating sticks of butter. But when you mix all the ingredients together and place them in a heated environment something wonderful is made and I sure do enjoy eating that cake that is created.

Isn’t this just the way our lives are? We have to consume things that are not pleasant. We have to go though things that are not fun at all. We have to endure troubles and trials within our lives and we are placed into situations that are so fiery we are not sure we can survive at times. But friend, this is how God makes us into something better than what we currently are.

The Bible says in 1 Peter 4:12, “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you.” We all face troubles and trials in this life and we shouldn’t be extremely surprised when they come our way. We just need to realize God is making us into something better than we currently are. He is making us into something desirable and pleasing to Him. In Romans 8:28 we read, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.”

We may not like all things we go through but God has a purpose for all we endure, and He is going to make something wonderful come forth. It is just like when that pound cake is finished cooking; we sit down and enjoy it. That is how God wants to use us.

We’ve all faced difficulties that others can benefit from. You may have endured a trial that I’ve never experienced but if I have to go through the same trial, you can comfort me and help me get through it. God’s ways are so different than our ways but remember, God’s way is always the right way!
