The other day I went to a local fast food drive-thru and placed my order. I was asked if I wanted to super-size my meal. Seeing that I’m kind of a “super-sized” man I responded that I did. It got me to thinking that we measure everything.

We measure people by the amount of money they have and how many friends they have. We measure a person’s strength by how big they are. We measure intellect by IQ scores. A popular television commercial’s catch phrase is, “Size Matters.” My point is that it is important to all of us to measure.

Keeping in mind this concept of measuring, in construction, any structure that is built to last has to be measured precisely. If the exact dimensions are not taken into consideration, then the structure will not stand.

Measuring is even relevant in a spiritual connotation as well. We even get a clear picture of the dimensions of our eternal dwelling place. I guess size really does matter.

I was reading in the Bible and found some dimensions that were a real comfort to my soul. One of my favorite passages of scripture, Romans 8, gives us some “divine dimensions” in verse 38 and 39. The apostle Paul starts out by declaring he’s persuaded. (Let me just also say that God has persuaded me because of His never ceasing love, grace, and mercy.) The he proceeds to give us some more “divine dimensions” that cannot separate us from God’s love.

He says the measure of death or the length of life cannot separate us from the love of God. No powers in Heaven or on earth can separate us from God’s love. Nothing that is here now or things to come will take away God’s love. Nothing, no matter how great or small, can separate us from God’s love. And then he covers everything else by simply saying, “Nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

My simple mind can’t really get a grasp on God’s love for you and me but if I had to explain it I’d have to say it doesn’t matter how big we get, or how low down we are. It doesn’t matter how young or old we are, whether we are rich and powerful or a poor beggar on the street, God loves us all and He proved his love by giving His only begotten son as a ransom for all humanity. The fact is sometimes human love dries up and gives up. You may feel like no one loves you but always remember, God’s love is unable to be severed and when you feel like no one cares, rest assure God loves and cares for you.
