UNION — An arrest for trespassing turned more serious for a Union man after he was allegedly found with cocaine in his possession.

Octavious Duquan Smith, 38, 220 Blue Ridge Road, is charged by the Union Public Safety Department with trespassing after notice and cocaine possession.

The incident report stated that an officer was patrolling on Lakeside Drive around 11:30 a.m. Friday when he saw Smith going into an apartment at Lakeside Manor Apartments. The officer, who knew that Smith had an active trespass notice for all Union Housing Authority properties, spoke with Smith and told him he was trespassing after notice.

A Union County Sheriff’s Office investigator who was with the officer searched Smith and found a fully loaded magazine clip for a 9mm handgun in Smith’s pocket. The investigator asked Smith where he got the clip from and Smith told him he’d found it on the ground behind the apartment.

The investigator then spoke with the apartment’s resident and was given permission to search the premises. In the ensuing search, the investigator found a fully loaded Taurus 9mm handgun in the kitchen.

When asked about the gun, Smith said that it was his.

A check of the gun by 911 found no match on the weapon and it was confiscated by the investigator.

Smith was arrested for trespass after notice and was taken to jail where a search of his person turned up a small clear bag with a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine. When asked about the bag, Smith said it belonged to him and he was charged with possession of cocaine.

Criminal Domestic Violence

A fight over a lottery ticket ended with a Union man in jail for allegedly attacking a woman as she attempted to call the police.

Belton Dewayne Walton, 35, 312 Brockman Heights, Union, is charged by the public safety department with criminal domestic violence.

The incident report stated that an officer responded shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday to Walton’s residence in reference to a domestic call.

The victim told the officer that she and Walton had gotten into an argument over a lottery ticket. She said she’d been on the phone telling her mother how much she’d won when Walton jerked her pocketbook out of her hand, breaking the strap. The woman said Walton was looking through her pocketbook for the lottery ticket.

The victim said she then opened the back door with her phone in her hand to call the police. She said Walton tried to get the phone from her and pushed her to the floor with his body.

The victim said she did not have any marks on her, but did agree to the officer’s request that she provide a written statement about the incident. After giving the officer the written statement, the woman was given a victim’s advocate form.

Walton then returned to the scene and when questioned by the officer admitted to having an argument with the victim and trying to find her lottery ticket. He said the victim did fall to the floor, but that he didn’t mean to make her fall.

Walton was then placed under arrest and taken to jail.

Assault And Battery, Petit Larceny

More than two weeks after warrants were issued for her arrest, a Jonesville woman ended up in jail for allegedly attacking another woman and stealing her cellphone.

Victoria Brannon Martin, 22, 136 Birch St., is charged by the public safety department with assault and battery and petit larceny.

The incident report stated that an officer was dispatched the night of Oct. 11 to a residence on E. Main Street in reference to a stolen cellphone.

The victim said that she and her cousin had gone to her aunt’s house on Tiger Court to get some money. As she was leaving, the victim said Martin and a group of people attacked her. She said Martin hit her, pulled out some of her hair and threw her to the ground.

The cousin, who witnessed the attack, said that the victim’s cellphone fell to the ground and was taken by Martin who placed it in her bra strap. She said they were unable to get the cellphone back from Martin.

The victim and her cousin then left the scene and went to the cousin’s home on E. Main Street to call 911. While they were there, the cousin called the victim’s cellphone and a man answered. She asked if they could get the phone back and the man told them they could for $40 and then hung up. When they called again, the man told them they could have it back for $20, which is what he paid for it. He then hung up and would not answer their calls after that.

The officer initially was unable to find Martin and warrants were issued for her arrest. She was arrested Sunday afternoon.

Criminal Domestic Violence

A fight over a cell phone landed a Union man and woman in jail after he each accused the other of attacking them.

Franklin Allen Young, 49, and Wanda Fay Little, 43, both of 219 S. Church St., #5C, are each charged by the public safety department with criminal domestic violence.

The incident report stated that an officer was dispatched Friday night to Young and Little’s residence in reference to a disturbance.

Little told the officer that she and Young got into a fight and that he’d hit her causing a knot in her forehead.

Young told the officer that he and Little got into a fight over a cellphone that got broke. He said Little got mad and stuck a hot iron to his back. He said he then pushed her and she got angry and began hitting him and that was when he hit her in the head.

The officer noticed a small knot on Little’s forehead just over her right eye and a small cut and a small amount of blood on Young’s lip. He photographed these injuries, but could not find any sign of an injury to Young’s back where he said Little stuck the hot iron.

Due to their statements and the evidence available, the officer was unable to determine who was the primary aggressor in the incident and placed both Little and Young under arrest.
