UNION — The Union branch of a national mainstay of fast food dining is getting a new look.
Burger King Store Manager Kerry Montgomery said Tuesday that the store, which is located at 508 N. Duncan Bypass, is getting a facelift to bring its appearance in line with the chain’s newer restaurants.
“The outside wall and roof are being remodeled,” Montgomery said. “There’s going to be new brickwork, tiling and siding and towers will be added. When it’s done the store will have the box-like look of the new stores.”
Montgomery said work the remodeling of the store began last Wednesday and is projected to be completed within two to four weeks.
“We work fast,” said Charles Battison, field superintendent for Mark Voyles Construction which is handling the remodeling. “We’re going to upgrade the outside of the building and make it look nice. We’re giving it a facelift with new brick, siding and tile and paint. We’re upgrading it to look like the newer ones.”
Battison said that when the renovations are completed the store will have a new, clean look that will impress its customers.
“The main thing we focus on is cleanliness,” Battison said. “When we’re done it’s a good, clean job. That’s what people like, that’s what we strive for.”
Battison said he and the other Voyles personnel working on the job are enjoying working in Union County.
“We appreciate working in Union County,” Battison said. “Everyone here is nice to us.”
The Union Burger King has been on the Duncan Bypass since its construction in 1988. Montgomery said the store employs 20 people.
According to its website (www.bk.com) Burger King, which was founded in 1954, is the second-largest fast food hamburger chain in the world with more than 11 million customers on a daily basis. The Union store is one of more than 7,000 company and independently owned Burger King restaurants in America.
