I met the nicest couple in the doctor’s office Monday, and found out they had originated from Lockhart. I was just sitting in the waiting room, being nosey, like I always do, and invited myself into the conservation. It really passed the time away, since my appointment was at 12 and I got called into a room at 2. My special couple this week are Keith and Ann Bailey.
Nancy called me and told me that her mother, Doris Whitlock, has been put in an induced coma after her heart surgery. They have not closed her up, because she will have to undergo another surgery. The left side of her heart is pumping blood, but not her right. She needs all your prayers.
I know I told this story a long time ago, but maybe some of you won’t remember. Doris let me borrow her car (this was over 20 years ago.) My kids and I had to pick her up after she got out of work.
Well on our way it started raining and I couldn’t get the wipers to come on. So by the time for Doris to start driving, it really started raining harder. She told me that if I would get out and hit the hood of the car, the wipers would come on.
I did this for about five lights, and finally I told Doris that I felt like a fool, because another driver was laughing at me. She said “Do you want to know what kind of fool you are?” Then she turned a toggle switch on, that was attached to the dash, and the wipers came on.
She thought that I was real easy to pull pranks on, and I was!
Reaction To A Shot
Let’s get back to the doctor’s office. I had a pneumonia shot and really think I had a reaction from it. Later in the evening my arm felt like it was hit by a brick, then when I went to bed I was so chilled that I absolutely could not get warm. I put flannel sheets on my bed and was still super cold, to the teeth chattering cold. Then I got a furry blanket, wrapped up in it, and crawled back into bed. After awhile I would burn up and a few minutes later chill again, and this went back and forth all night. As it was I went to work without any sleep.
Dolly came by to visit with me and while she was talking to me I think my eyes would roll around and I doze off for a second or two. It was best that I stayed busy to stay awake. I just wondered if this has happened to anyone else. They did tell me I would never have to have another one. I don’t know if they meant because it might chill me to death, or it just lasts a life time.
Cured By The Chiropractor
I’m always asked about my chiropractor, Dr. Bridgett Sherman, and my answer is she can cure just about anything, except a pneumonia shot. I had a spur on the bottom of my foot, and through a hard rubbing treatment, I have to believe it’s gone. I really had a hard time walking on it and wearing shoes, and she saved me from surgery. I have no trouble with my foot at all.
At Wal Mart
I went to Wal Mart today and ran into Myrtis Young, we compared salad notes. Jane checked me out and told me that Ted gave her a gift certificate for Valentine’s Day from the beauty shop in Wal Mart. Wait until I see Ted! Then I hollered over to Dale and told her that I was glad Micheal didn’t grow up to be like his grandpa, ha ha! And finally ran into Brenda Jenkins, who told me that she had to go back to the office. She is unique and thorough.
I can’t say for sure at this time, but I’ve heard that maybe we’ll have part of the public library at the Town Hall. They have discontinued the library bus, so I think this is why this might happen. I’ll know for sure next week.
Thursday, March 14 we will have our council meeting to swear in our new council and mayor. Judge Crocker will be officiating the occasion. Barry Cannup and Beverly Shrader are the new council members and Ailene Ashe will be going back in as Mayor.
Hot Dog Sale
Don’t forget that the Boy Scouts are selling tickets for a hot dog dinner on the 30th of March. That’s two hot dogs, chips, slaw. for $5.
Brandy told me that Clint Smallwood would be 15 on the 14th of March. It’s also Red Walkers’. Happy Birthday also to Terry Harris, Wayne Grady, Anita Montgomery and Micheal Lemons on the 15th. John Bobo on the 16th. Margaret Montgomery and Montana Franklin on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17. The 19 is Jessie Roberts, Betty Stepp, and Stormy Queen. The 21st, Charlotte Ashe, Samatha McGowen, and Vickie Gregory. Tommy Fowler and Jeff Bailey on the 22nd.
The New Neighbors
After new neighbors moved in, our garbage was knocked over in the mornings by their big black dog. I’d often try to shoo him away, but he’d only snarl at me. In exasperation, I went to my neighbors to complain.
“Thank you for telling me,” said the woman who opened the door. “We noticed he had bad breath, but we didn’t know where he was getting it.”
A Lesson In Economics
“A recession,” claimed the stockbroker, “is when your neighbor loses his job. A depression is when you lose your job. And panic is when your wife loses her job.”
Another Economics Lesson
If your name is on the building, you’re rich; if your name is on you desk, you’re middle class; if your name is on your shirt, you’re poor.
Maybe there will be some interesting news next week, if you call me. Goodnight, 545-6652.
