On March 30, the Lockhart Boy Scouts will be having a hot dog dinner to make money to buy the equipment that was stolen from the Scout Hut this past summer. Please try to come and support this new troop. If you are interested in becoming a Scout, this would be a good time to come and sign up.

“Down By The River”

April 6 is going to be the “Down By The River” Festival put on by Jacob’s Well. The time is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will be plenty of food, crafts, classic cars, games, cornhole, etc. At 11:30 the sign up for the motorcycle run will start. It’s $10 and $5 extra if you have an extra rider. This is a church run, and afterwards there will be a blessing of the bikes and a memory patch. There will be a full day of gospel singing, so bring your chairs. Some of the singers will be the Riverside Boys, the Childers (Jantzen, Eric, and Jay), Kellie Allen and Pattie Turner, Luke Jenkins, Gina Childers, Pat Johnson, Amy House, Erin Bobo, and I believe a few more. Put it on you calender and join in the fun here in Lockhart.

Mayor, Council Members Sworn-In

We swore in our new council members and mayor last Thursday night. We were honored to have Judge Jimmie Crocker with us to swear them in. Barry Canupp was sworn in with his wife Bernice and granddaughter holding the Bible. Beverly Shrader was sworn in with husband Johnny holding the Bible. Mayor Ailene Ashe went in with Annette Sutherland holding the Bible for her.

Town Hall Public Library

If you want to check out a library book, we now have a little piece of the Public Library at the Town Hall. The hours of check out will be during business hours, Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. They have discontinued the library truck, so this is how they are trying to let you keep checking out books. If you’re like me, I love to read. I come from a family of readers. My father used the library truck the whole time it came down here. My grandmother had a bookcase wall, so her sons and grandchildren grew up with books. As soon as I finish one book I pick up the next one. If I have one free minute, I’m reading. Try it!

At The Movies

Remember how I was complaining about how many times I had to see the preview of The Call with Halle Berry. You know, “911. How is your emergency?” Guess what I went to see tonight. You’re right. Well there was nothing else to see. Really, we started seeing different previews on TV and decided since we didn’t have to pay for it, then why not. Guess what?! It really was good, and kept you near the edge of your seat. I kept making comments and Gina kept saying Shhh. I really couldn’t help myself.

Remember In Prayer

Please remember Doris Whitlock’s family in prayer. They had to make a big decision tonight. Nancy called me and left me a message. I hate I was not home to talk to her, and it really was late when I listened to it, so I hope she’s getting some sleep. They called the family in.

Tinsie Inman asked prayer for Betty Horton, she’s back home with her family.

The Bridge

For those who have asked me about the bridge from Lockhart to Chester, it will be built on the side of Lockhart that the Senior Building is on and will not be taking any of the houses on the rock wall going toward highway 49. I believe this is going to take a couple of years before they even start.

Please remember if you’re looking for a place to live, we have a six-room house available right in the middle of Lockhart with the children’s playground across the street.

The Weather

If you don’t like the cold weather today, just wait until tomorrow, when it’s summer. Isn’t this weather crazy, each day is a different climate. Sunday I had to turn the air on in the shop, and the next day I had the heat on. I only thought we had it crazy in Michigan. I used to say, when I lived up there, that if you don’t like the weather today just wait until tomorrow, it will be completely different. I remember one Easter, it was in the 90s and I was planting a rose bush, and got a good first burn tan on my shoulders, well that night, we got a frost and I had to run out and put plastic over my new bush.

When we had my son’s first birthday party, it was a backyard party and so hot. The second birthday we had it inside because it was snowing. This was May 4. Really!

The Boss

I always try to go the extra mile at work, but my boss always finds me and brings me back.

No man goes before his time — unless the boss leaves early.

Eager Pet

The drive-up window at the bank where I’m a teller has an outside drawer to accept customer transactions. A woman once drove up with her dog in the front seat, and the pet eagerly jumped over onto the driver’s lap when the car reached my window. He looked excited to see me.

“Your dog is so friendly!” I said to the owner.

“He thinks he’s at McDonald’s,” she replied.

Cat Vs. Dog

Which animal do you think is clever — a cat or a dog? A cat, of course. Have you ever seen cats pulling sleds through snow and ice?

Well I’ll close and say good night. 545-6652
