UNION — The three candidates for mayor of the City of Union will face each other and field questions from the public during a debate this evening at USC Union.
Brad Greer, enrollment manager, said the debate, which is being sponsored by the university and WBCU, will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the auditorium on the third floor of the Main Building. He said the debate will be broadcast lived by WBCU.
Greer said that all three mayoral candidates — Harold Thompson (incumbent), Torance Inman and Mike Stevens — will take part in the debate which will be moderated by Dr. Allan Charles, professor of history. He said that Dr. Charles will ask the candidates 10-15 questions submitted by the public. If time permits, Greer said the candidates will also field questions from the audience.
Thompson, who has been mayor since 2007, is seeking his second term in office. He is opposed for reelection by Inman, the director of the Union County Chamber of Commerce, and by former radio announcer and take show host Mike Stevens.
Next Debate
Thursday’s debate is one of two the university is sponsoring with WBCU.
Greer said the next debate will held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, for the candidates for Union County Sheriff — David Taylor (incumbent), William Jolly and Marshal Adams — and for the candidates for Union County Clerk of Court — Freddie Gault (incumbent) and Melanie Lawson.
That debate — which will also be broadcast live by WBCU — will also be held in the auditorium and moderated by Dr. Charles with questions provided by the public.
