Marvin Jennings Smith, 84, husband of Lealer Smith, of 128 Bird St., died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007 at Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg.

Mr. Smith was born in Kelton on July 29, 1923, a son of the late Eddie Eistine (Good) Smith and Willie Townsend Smith. He attended the Harris School in Kelton and joined the Bethel Baptist Church at an early age. Mr. Smith enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps an began his military duty at Camp LeJune, N.C. He served in active combat during World War II. His family values, work ethic and military training prepared him for a variety of employment opportunities in Pittsburgh, Pa., retiring in 1993 from the Port Authority Transit.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Marva Smith-Hankins of Philadelphia, Pa., Geraldine Smith of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Valerie Brown of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a step-daughter, Barbara Rice of Columbia; a brother, Willie Townsend “Tank” Smith Jr. of Monaca, Pa.; three sisters, Eddie Earline Thompson of Spartanburg, Vivian Jean Glenn and Georgia Good, both of Orangeburg; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and three foster sons.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at Bethel Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Viewing will be Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, from 2 until 3 p.m..

The family is at the home on Bird Street.
