SPARTANBURG — Three former Union County High School baseball players made an impact on the diamond Saturday in their respective collegiate games.

Jake Walton and Alex Pridemore helped Spartanburg Methodist to a 7-3 win over Calhoun Community College on Saturday while Josh Simpson worked from the mound during Wofford’s 9-1 snow shortened victory.

Walton, a freshman, led the Yellow Jackets’ offense last year with a .378 batting average. At SMC, he serves as designated hitter and on Saturday he went 2-4 with two RBI. Pridemore, a veteran pitcher, got the start from the hill and hurled five innings with six strikeouts, five walks and gave up just one hit before being relieved by Cole Norwood.

Wofford had a 5-1 lead heading into the fourth inning when southpaw Simpson was called on to relieve starter Jessie Morris. Simpson allowed just one hit in two innings before the game was called.

Wofford hosted UNC Asheville on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. and took a 7-4 win. The Terriers will travel to East Tennessee State on Tuesday afternoon for the first road contest of the season.

SMC played Southern Union State Community College on Sunday, falling 8-7 and will host Catawba Valley Community College on Wednesday in a double header beginning at 1 p.m.
