Filing for District 3 seat opens Friday

UNION — Filing will open Friday morning for a special election to fill a vacant seat on Union City Council.

The District 3 seat has been vacant since the death of councilman Keith Henderson on January 27. Henderson was serving his third term at the time of his death.

City of Union Municipal Clerk Gloria Rogers said Wednesday that filing will open at 8:30 a.m. Friday for the April 23 special election to fill the District 3 seat. Rogers said persons wanting to run for the seat will have to file to do so in her office. To run for the District 3 seat, Rogers said a person must:

• Sign a statement of candidacy.

• Pay a $100 filing fee.

• Be a registered voter in District 3 at least 30 days.

Filing for the District 3 seat will close at noon on Monday, February 25.

The winner of the April 23 election will serve out the remainder of Henderson’s term which expires in 2016.
