UNION — A county employee who was injured while on the job is in the hospital but wanting to come back to work, according to Union County Supervisor Tommy Sinclair.

Sinclair said the accident occurred around noon Thursday at the recycling convenience center on John Hart Road.

“A truck was trying to pick up a recycling bin and the employee got his ankle caught between the truck and the bin,” Sinclair Friday afternoon. “He was taken to Spartanburg (Regional Medical Center) where they are going to do surgery on his ankle.”

Sinclair would not give further details about the employee or his injury, but did say that the injury is not life-threatening. He added that the county’s insurance would pay for the employee’s medical treatment.

While he was injured on the job, Sinclair said this has not discouraged the employee. He said he spoke with a member of the employee’s family who said he wants to come back to work as soon as possible.
